NEWARK
BEARS TEAM UP WITH NEWARK, NJ, September 7 The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club and the Enough is Enough Coalition today announced a plan to team up to collect food and goods for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The two Newark, New Jersey-based outfits will collect canned, non-perishable food and other important daily goods this weekend, September 9th, 10th and 11th, at all three Newark Bears home games vs. the Bridgeport Bluefish at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The donations will be given to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and will be distributed to the hurricane victims in the southern United States. Everyone who comes to a Bears game this weekend and makes a donation will receive an entry to win a complimentary luxury suite during a game on the Bears 2006 home schedule.
In
our own small way, the Newark Bears organization and the Enough is Enough
Coalition are trying to make a positive difference for those people whose
lives have been turned upside down because of Hurricane Katrina, said
Bears spokesperson Jim Cerny. We can not erase the tragedies that have
taken place, but we are hoping that we can at least ease some of their
burdens.
The
Bears host the Bluefish Friday night at 7:05 PM, Saturday evening at 6:05 PM
and Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM. Individual tickets cost $9 for box seats
and $7 for reserved seats. Food and dry goods donations can be made at the
gates to the stadium before or during the games. Those not able to attend
the games may still bring their donations to the Newark Bears executive
offices at 450 Broad Street in Newark any time during business hours.
For
further information, contact Fred Ewig of the Newark Bears by calling (973)
848-1000, ext. 114 or by e-mail at fewig@newarkbears.com.

ENOUGH
IS ENOUGH COALITION representatives Artie Nicholson Collins (left - VP-PNC
Bank) and Minister Thomas Ellis (right - Pres. and Founder of ENOUGH IS
ENOUGH COALITION) greeted fans at The Den on 9/9/05 and collected donated
dry and canned goods that will be gathered by the Community Food Bank of New
Jersey and shipped to our fellow Americans who were displaced by Hurricane
Katrina. The donated items will be distributed via America's Second
Harvest.
The
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH COALITION provides nonprofit support to victims of violence
in Essex County. Through its community-based fund-raising efforts, the
Coalition has raised awareness of the extent of gun violence and the
layers of destruction that effect families here in our area. The
Newark Bears have teamed up with the Coalition to lend support to local
families by donating game tickets to families in need of comfort. This
weekend's food drive will provide nutritional support to those most in need
during these tragic days in the Gulf Coast.
